The African American Firefighters Museum | Los Angeles, CA

Located across the street from the historic Coca Cola Building on South Central Avenue, Los Angeles’ African American Firefighter Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving and promoting the heritage of African American firefighters, The museum is housed in the historic fire station #30, which because of segregation laws, was one of only two stations in Los Angeles where African Americans were allowed to work in the early part of the 20th century.  Covering the period from the first black firefighters hired in 1897 to the present day, the museum’s exhibits showcase a variety of authentic firefighting gear and equipment, including 100 year-old fire engines and wagons , vintage and current day uniforms, badges, helmets, photographs and a special display dedicated to black female firefighters. Admission is free.
