Using films, photos, contemporary quotations, and other sources, the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, on the banks of the James River in Richmond, Virginia, is the nation’s first museum to interpret the Civil War on both the local and national levels through the perspectives Union, Confederate, and African American participants. Exhibits narrate the war experience from each perspective, and commentary from preeminent scholars helps to examine the intricate relationships, the causes of the war and its legacies. A National Historic Landmark and one-time heart of Confederate war production, the Center is also the location of the main visitor center of the NPS Richmond National Battlefield Park.
