Robert Gould Shaw and the Massachusetts Fifty-fourth Volunteer Infrantry Regiment

Built in 1897 on Boston Common, the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial depicts Colonel Shaw on horseback leading the Massachusetts 54th Regiment, the first all-volunteer black regiment in the Union army organized in a Northern state.
