Honda’s Battle of the Bands, Atlanta, GA
With more than 50,000 HBCU friends, fans, students and alumni traveling from all around the country , America’s Historically Black Universities and Colleges top marching bands are ready again to throw down the gauntlet at Honda’s Battle of the Bands (HBOB) in Atlanta, Georgia. This year’s showcase, aptly themed “The Power of Dreams,” had special significance as the nation inaugurated its first African-American president.
The 2009 lineup includes:
- Virginia State University and Fayetteville State University, representing the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA);
- Florida A&M University and North Carolina A&T State University, representing the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC);
- Tuskegee University and Kentucky State University, representing the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC);
- Jackson State University and Texas Southern University, representing the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC);
- North Carolina Central University and Edward Waters College, both independents.
HBOB is the largest and only national scholarship program that showcases the proud heritage of HBCU college marching bands. As an annual, national scholarship program emphasizing music education, the bands selected to participate in the annual Invitational Showcase will be awarded prize money by American Honda for their music scholarship programs.
